Junhewk Kim, DDS, PhD, MBE, is a medical ethicist and health-professions educator. His research program examines how healthcare technologies, professional education, and clinical decision-making can remain accountable to patients and the public.
The program is currently led by one PI and works through project-specific collaborations. Collaborators and co-authors are not presented as permanent team members. The Department of Dental Education includes independent faculty research programs and is not represented here as one laboratory.
Research themes
Healthcare AI ethics and research governance
Research in this area develops practical governance for healthcare AI: research-ethics guidance, human oversight, public involvement, and standards that can be used across the development lifecycle rather than remaining at the level of abstract principles.
Dental and health-professions education
This work studies the competencies, curricula, and forms of critical reflection that future health professionals need, including dental ethics, geriatric dentistry, and responsible uses of AI in research and education.
Patient participation and shared decision-making
This strand investigates how patients seek information, exercise autonomy, and participate in clinical choices, and how shared decision-making can be implemented in Korean healthcare.

Public scholarship and educational platforms
ethosLab is an independent education-technology platform founded and operated by Junhewk Kim. It develops protected dialogue-based learning, including browser-protected assessment, live classroom activities, Socratic writing support, and feedback workflows that keep teachers in control.
AI for Research is a free, nonprofit educational service for medical researchers. It is jointly operated by ethosLab and the Department of Dental Education at Yonsei University College of Dentistry through Junhewk Kim. It teaches research workflows in which tools preserve a reviewable record, AI supports judgment and synthesis, and people remain responsible for decisions.
